A wildly fun primordial Tycoon game. After playing RollerCoaster Tycoon for a few hours, you’ll find that the fun is wildly contagious. Unlike other strategy games, RollerCoaster Tycoon, perhaps more befitting its corporate master Hasbro than its actual publisher MicroProse, seems more concerned with surrounding the player in the fun parts of managing an amusement park. Apr 02, 2016 I had that isue too, it stops at 0%, but now after a couple updates when i start up rollercoaster i cant even go thrue the black screen before the starting atari messages. The -force-d3d9 won't work. It crashes after starting up the game when the Steam pop-up comes in it freezes.

RollerCoaster Tycoon has a number of patches available from Atari's FTP server. Additionally, Corkscrew Follies and Loopy Landscapes each have one patch. These will update RollerCoaster Tycoon to v1.08.187, Corkscrew Follies/Added Attractions to v1.10.026, and Loopy Landscapes v1.20.013.

The 2003 Deluxe release, as well as all downloadable versions are already patched to the latest version.

There are two official roller coaster collection downloads from Chris Sawyer, both available via his website. While the 'Cat' collection can be used in any version of the game, the 'Phobia' collection can only be used in conjunction with games that have either the Corkscrew Follies/Added Attractions or Loopy Landscapes expansion packs.

The downloadable versions are already patched to be compatible with modern systems. The fixes below are for the original release.

Compatibility modes[edit]

Setting the game to run in compatibility mode can help fix many issues with launching and playing the game. To do this, right-click the .exe, open Properties and set the game to run in Windows 98 / Windows ME, Windows XP SP2, or Windows XP SP3 compatibility mode from the Compatibility tab.

Desktop composition[edit]

Some problems can be caused in Windows 7 and Windows Vista by having desktop composition enabled. To turn this off, check the 'Disable desktop composition' option from the Compatibility menu (right-click .exe > Properties > Compatibility).

Dialog boxes not opening/unable to save[edit]

Running RollerCoaster Tycoon with visual themes enabled can prevent the open/save dialog box from opening. To fix this, check the 'Disable visual themes' option from the Compatibility menu (right-click .exe > Properties > Compatibility).

Another save game issue can be caused by not running the game as an Administrator. To fix this, check the 'Run this program as an administrator' option from the Compatibility menu (right-click .exe > Properties > Compatibility).

• Blocker: Game gets stuck in an infinite loading when returning to Main Menu from Mission 1.1
• Coaster Builder: Invisible Auto-Complete Node
• Crash: Mission 1.1 – Game crashes when attaching a path from the exit of a ride to the main path.
• Crash: Game hangs after deleting a medium or large path that clips through the limit fence, changing the path type and repeating the process.
• General:: The screen briefly turns white the first time selecting a Heat Map filter.
• General: Grammatical errors can be seen in the topiary scenery descriptions.
• General: The info box for rotation does not show up when rotating PxP and coaster tracks.
• General: All rides will show up as closed when loading a park.
• Lighting: The first light you place does not have lighting.
• Options: The option window will not be centered on a 4k monitor with 4k resolution.
• Pathing: Paths and Queues can be created unrealistically low over other paths, in some cases causing terrain to overlap the underlying path.
• Pathing: After modifying a path to a new texture, the path is no longer selected.
• PXP: New Modern PxP Extras screenshots/thumbnail shows beneath the pieces, instead of the top.
• Save/Load: Resuming Mission 1.2 when the Fame Event has started but the Influencer has not arrived will cause a hang on the loading screen.
• Save/Load: Prevent forbidden characters from being used in filenames.
• Scenery: Some scenery cannot be displayed as selected.
• Scenery: The Wondrous Arch is labelled as global scenery while it should be adventure themed.
• Terrain: The coasters supports levitate when the player selects to ‘Flatten’ the terrain.
• UGC: Offline screen is missing.
• UI: Broken rides do not always have a wrench UI icon.
