Rollercoaster Tycoon Error Trapper Exception Raised

The past couple of days RCT has been being a little stupid lately. Here is what happens. I put in the cd, click play, wait for the screen to go black as usual. Then instead of it bringing up the 'all rights reserved' thing, it brings up the main menu, the one with the wooden twister roller coaster(just trying to give more info)and it's missing chuncks in the picture, but the thing that's wrong the most is that it brings up a window that is titled'Error Trapper', and here is what it says in the window.

Don't be in a hurry to obtain a faster laptop if the present-day system runs tortoise-paced to an absolute crawl! Wipe some hard-drive space by purging obsolete restore points. Loopy landscapes is made to only run on windows 95 and 98, you have to download this patch for loopy landscapes to work with windows xp and i think windows 2000.

Then the only thing I can click on is the ok, and when I click on it, it gets out of the whole thing.I really want to try to stay away from re-installing it.If anybody could contribute help, it would be greatly appreciated. In the mean time, I will continue to go board out of my mind.

All I know is that the problem started after I downloaded a particular trainer. I don't remember the name of it but what I can say is that the writer said 'not responsible for....', you get the drill. That should have been enough for me to stay away from it.

The puzzling thing is now I can't get the game to work at all, even after elimating the trainer and uninstalling the game. Is there some sort of patch to fix all of this? I too would appreciate some help here.

Sounds like the program has gotten corrupted somehow. Are you using a trainer? If so it might be time to find a new one OR (in a very 'dad' like voice)not use one at all and play the game the way it was meant to be played. Really the only way around this is to completely reinstall. I know it sucks, but if you want to play it again, that's what you're going to have to do. You know there are cheats out there that DON'T use the trainer...they are little bit more interesting to play with, and I suggest them instead of things such as the Dueling Dragon key which will crash your system if you're not careful

I've had the same thing happen to me not too long ago. Even after getting rid of the trainers I used and uninstalling then reinstalling the game, I still had that problem. I then uninstalled it again, and installed the original RCT only, then it worked! Then after I installed Corkscrew Follies/Loopy Landscapes, it went back to that 'error trapper' message. Then I figured that somehow or another my CF/LL disc got damaged or corrupted, and I went out and bought a new CF/LL disc, and everything has been working fine since. I am not using trainers this time. So, chances are you have a damaged or corrupted CD, and you may have to end up buying a new RCT or CF/LL CD, just as I did. Uninstall everything pertaining to RCT, and just reinstall the original RCT, and see if that works. If it does, then you have a bad CF/LL disc.

The only thing I can possibly suggest trying is cleaning your CF/LL Cd with cd cleaner. Just like everyone else has said, I have had to uninstall and reinstall the whole game a few times because I use the Beast Trainer and sometimes I get that same error. I did have that error come back after uninstalling once but, My husband cleaned up my CD and it went away. Could have been a fluke but you have nothing to lose by cleaning it,lol.

I had the same problem, but it was only in one certain park. If you haven't tried other parks, do that. Also I had the problem with the Dragons IOA trainer and when I stopped using that, the problem was gone. I haven't had any problems wth the Beast Trainer. Hope this helps.

If you uninstall, it will give you the option of deleting your saves or not. If you are concerned about them, go into the game's directory (usually c:Program FilesHasbro InteractiveRollerCoaster Tycoon) and copy everything in the tracks and saves directories to somewhere else.

Here are some things to try to get it working:

-Get the newest patch from rollercoastertycoon.com or infogrames.com

-Uninstall (remember that option I mentioned) then reinstall RCT, then LL, then the newest LL patch

-Run an updated virus scanner (ya never know)

-Try to figure out what you may have done recently between the last time it worked and when it started acting up

-Go into 'recent documents' or your game directory and open a game save directly.

-Check to see if other games are working. If not, reinstall DirectX, video drivers, sound drivers, etc...

What Windows ver do you have? (98, ME, XP, etc...)

Generally trainers (like TRG) do not modify the game. So you shouldn't have to worry about them. Are you running the trainer when it does this? Maybe you need the newest version.

I Will Email You The Patch byAtlantaCoaster at 3/20/02 8:46:36 AM

Hi Gavin...

I was having the same problem about 3-4 months ago. KMAN emailed me the patch that repaired it....I should still have it.

I will email it to you when I get home this afternoon (4 PM EST)....I should still have it. It fixed the problem in about 10 seconds.

Best Regards, Bill M. / AtlantaCoaster

Re: I'm almost there!, lol byMMountainMan at 3/20/02 2:35:43 PM

Thanks, I would'nt mind you still sending it to me. Okay, I took up DoomPlagues advice and uninstalled it, it was one of the hardest decisions i've made in a while because I was weary about my saved games. But it broght up the thing asking if I wanted to save my games and such, but I put them in another place just incase(which I wish I had'nt done), oh and RCT is up and running almost fine, but really this time I have just one more question...I hope, when I go to save a game it does'nt show me where it's going to go, and just saves, and it saves by itself under a name a guest in my park! or for example (handyman000001) or something, I tried making a new park to see if only my games were the problem, and when I saved it, It did what it usually does, it tells me where it's going, and I resaved it, and it asked if I wanted to replace the existing one, and it did just like normal, so if anybody could help me on this one, I think i'm all set to continue playing countless hours.:-D

Do you have the UK or US version of the game? Then read 'that
mess' as you put it, particularly the howto, and about the fact
that there are official patches for the game that appear to get
it working under wine. Whether that holds true for crossover, I
cannot say (I don't have this title) -- what I posted was a link
to some information that might be another avenue for owners of
this game to look at and try.
I cannot verify the information, but to clarify it for you;
Go to www.atari.com and then to the rollercoaster tycoon page there.
See if there is an official patch for the game in your language and
download it.
Follow the directions in the howto on the page I linked to at WineHQ
on how to install the official patch (the paths will be different for
crossover-games, but if you need help with that post back here)...but,
from the howto, the *crossover-games* procedure will be...
Install the game into it's own bottle
Copy the official patch into the bottle you installed rollercoaster tycoon
into (it looks like the patch must be in the same directory in the bottle
that contains the rct.exe file)
Start cxsetup, highlight the bottle you installed rollercoaster tycoon into,
then click =>configure=>control panel=>run (to run a command in the bottle)
Select the official patch copied above using the 'Browse' button then click
=>open=>run -- that should apply the official patch.
Now try running the game again
Be mindful there are several different versions of this title, and
whether it will work or not sill depend on exactly which version you have.
If you don't have a display capable of 4:3 aspect screen resolutions (640x480
or 800x600), you will have to enable 'Emulate a virtual desktop' in winecfg.
